Happy Thanksgiving from Girl Meets World Reviewed

"Come on, you big chunk of ice! Be a turkey! Be a big turkey! Gobble gobble, block of ice!"

It's Thanksgiving! Give thanks! Hug your family! Watch "Turkey Day" and (if time permits) "Chasing Angela."

I recommend the Sam Adams Octoberfest. It's too early for the Winter Lager, put that down. Have some self respect.

I cannot say for sure but I believe he shut down the blog due to Anonymous comments attacking him and other commenters. Unknown also found the blog very time consuming. I found him on Twitter and we've corresponded a few times. I think he scaled back on blogging. It's sad but he seems to be doing much better.

    3. Haven't seen the episode yet, probably won't use the link since it didn't work for my computer last time. Oh well.

Hey, Christian, did you think of anything you'd like to see for the Core Four in Season 3?

    4. I broke down and watched it. Huh. I'm with 1960poster. I'm not sure either.

  5. Polished off the remainder of Season 2 of BMW. Not sure if the episodes got that much better or if a cumulative effect kicked in, but it really picked up speed toward the end, and I was already generally enjoying the season.

Actively disliked the wrestling episode though.

  7. So Disney Channel Canada posted their sysnopsis for "New Year" on their daily schedule, except they accidently posted the sysnopsis for "Bay Window" instead. This is what they posted.

High school is coming up and Riley is embracing change. She wants to redecorate the bay window in her room to help her grow up and launch her into high school. Maya is totally against it ... this is their sacred spot and there's no way it should change.

Doesn't sound like a very interesting plot. And in typical Disney fashion they do not mention at all that this is the episode where they tell us how RIley, Maya and Farkle met.

It was posted here: http://www.disneychannel.ca/schedule look up the schedule for December 4th.

    1. Well...that's disappointing. If all that episode is another opportunity for them to worship at the alter that is the Bay Window, then I'll be a little upset. The Bay Window has had some of this shows best scenes, but this is ridiculous.

      Delete
    2. Hold on a minute guys, this might not be as bad as it sounds. I mean, it's essentially room re-decoration, even if it's concentrated on the Bay Window. Digging up old mementos could easily allow for flashbacks.

And besides, the synopses have been wrong before. Sometimes even radically inaccurate. Take "Hurricane."
Cory and Shawn take the girls out for a fun night, but just as Maya feels closer to Shawn, someone from his past comes back into his life and risks ruining everything.

That certainly is not even close to what happened. There was no "fun night" at all--which is actually a shame as it would have allowed for a smoother accidental run-in with Angela.

The writers said they all cried when they were finished editing "Bay Window." That sounds promising. Sort of.

      Having said that...
For the love of all that is holy, do not, I repeat DO NOT let that blasted Ghost of the Bay Window be in this episode. PLEASE!

  8. So, we got a new tweet today from the writers. Nothing really we weren't expecting:

Friday: Triangle. Why? It was clear from the pilot. What's the secret of life?
Oh, for those of you who don't like triangles... It isn't.

Truthfully, the pilot did not make it seem like Maya liked Lucas. Sometimes I think that the writer's aren't immune to their own retconning skills.

    2. The writers are trolls. Let's be honest.

    3. Okay, what has been clear since the pilot? That's a good question, GMW writers, considering you changed so much.

The original pilot had Evelyn Rand as a blue collar worker. Did they ever say what she did? Nurse wasn't it? 12-hour shifts.
What do we have now? Inexplicably Rand is a billionaire who can take time out of her day to bully anybody who's bothering Riley and Maya. Still not over how "Crazy Hat" went down.
And apparently, Rand is meant to be the same character in both the pilot and "Crazy Hat" so they didn't just recycle the actress.

The original pilot had Cory as a decent teacher who, while easy-going and conversational with his students, was also clearly an authority figure. Maybe that's the plot twist, Cory grows a spine.

The original pilot had Elliot, Riley's teasing one-year-older brother who was later cut from the show. A shame, but we've covered this already.

The pilot had only a little bit of Auggie. This hasn't really changed.

The original pilot established the Riley-Maya dynamic as "Maya will get us into trouble. I will get us out of trouble." What trouble? This dynamic has come up so infrequently, I could legitimately count the occurrences on both hands and still have a couple fingers left over.

The original pilot had Lucas be a bit more country cowboy. That's not really there anymore, but it's been two years. It's fair for that not to be there anymore.

The original pilot had Farkle crushing on Riley and Maya, but he wasn't even a Minkus yet. His name was Shamus Farkle before they changed it without anybody noticing. I don't think that's going to be brought up on Friday.

This has nothing to do with any of that, but does anybody remember how Twitter got so popular?

#GirlMeetsWorld fans....a little birdy told me that the first taping date is February 2nd. Season 3 here we come!

    6:03 PM - 30 Nov 2015

So it appears that the first live audience taping is the start of February. I wonder of that is the first real taping or if they are going to do a few without a live audience before that. They had originally said they would start taping mid January.

Im just waiting for that one major plot twist that changes the whole game. @GMWWriters

I am assuming, based on past experience, that this episode will then be shown out of order much later in the season due to a Disney themed weekend and that half a season will make no sense what so ever until this episode airs. Either that or we get nothing and this is just more smoke blown up our butts.

    2. Plot twist. Lucas and Zay end up together.

    3. Shipping, are you saying that in "Texas 1" when Pappy Joe said to Lucas and Zay "Come on boys, let's ride" it meant something different than we all thought it meant?

Sorry - I sat on that all day, couldn't let it go anymore. I know I'm a terrible person.

    4. Plot twist, Stuart Minkus successfully invents operational single-person mecha suits and/or manages to unlock the morphing grid, giving Farkle and his friends the opportunity to become Power Rangers. Five morphers, one each for Farkle, Riley, Maya, Smackle and Zay. Sixth morpher to be revealed ten episodes into the season is for Uncle Josh.

      OR

Plot twist, Rachel returns and reveals that she has a child. She is unsure of whether the father is Eric or Jack. Rachel also discloses that she's terminally ill and she wants Eric and Jack to raise her son together. Cue spin-off series (which is also a reboot) "My Two Dads."

Let's see. In Season 3 of BMW Cory and Topanga said I love you, Shawn found a guardian in Jonathan Turner, and we visited the 1950's. Okay.

    9:01 AM - 1 Dec 2015

The 1950's thing sounds awful. I'm sure they wouldn't have mentioned it if it wasn't referencing something they plan on doing. Don't they remember how "Meets 1961" was looked at by the fanbase?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I did not like 1961 at all. The set-up stretches the fragile timeline to the breaking point--Aunt Prudence anyone?--and it just seems so inconsequential. Butterfly effects are rather interesting, but the only real thing about the Great-Grandparents Meeting that had an effect was Topanga getting her name out of it.

Christian brought up, way back when, that it should have been Grandma Rhiannon instead of Great-Grandma Rosie in 1961, and I think he has a very good point.

But there's some good stuff here.

"Cory and Topanga said I love you." That probably means something tangible in whatever relationship is going on at the time. Please, for the love of all that is holy, don't let it be Rucas.

"Shawn found a guardian in Jonathan Turner." This obviously means more stuff for Shawn and Maya and Katy. No complaints.

"We visited the 1950's." Uh oh. Not good. Unless this is something completely meta, like Riley teasing Cory about his habit of having time-travel dreams. That'd be...not particularly funny but not terrible.

    2. Hi guys. I'm 4 eps into BMW season 3. I mustn't have been paying close enough attention to the first two season because I completely whiffed on the Cory always having been in love with Topagna angle. I'm also no longer sure I know what grade they are supposed to in.

I liked 1961 just fine, but may be alone in that.

      Delete
    3. Milstones, in season 3 they are just entering the 8th grade. They started season 1 in 6th grade. Their school grades start getting blurry in season 4 in "I Ain't Gonna Spray Lettuce No More".

And while in season 1 they played on the Cory-Topanga relationship mildly, they did hit it pretty hard in "Boy Meets Girl". Season 2 started it off with Cory displaying his feelings in "Pairing Off", "Cory Wolf", "Fear Strikes Out", and "Wake Up Little Cory". We found out Topanga liked Cory in whatever episode it was that she was trying to get the yearbook quotes (I think that was the wrestling episode), where she accidently showed her feelings to Shawn and then when Cory got mono and she told him she liked him. The entire "loved each other our entire lives" line kind of played off those plus other stuff they throw out during the course of the series.

And these writers retcon like no others, so you just gotta go with whatever they say. If you think too hard about it, it starts to unravel.

      Delete
    4. It just never seemed like love was the start state. Admittedly I kind of zoned out during the wrestling episode, but nothing I saw in the last clutch of Season 2 episodes suggested seeing Cory pining away for Topanga and apprehensive about her return from summer holidays. I thought I might have thrown in the wrong disc.

I certainly agree 1960 that you have to go with the flow. As long as they aren’t making pronouncements about the large-scale structure of reality, or equating my country with Season 1 Farkle, I think I have cut GMW as much slack as anyone, at least anyone who routinely shows up here. I’m not grumbling about BMW either. I’m enjoying the series. I just mention it because the writers did, and because I just watched the start of Season 3 yesterday.

In the first few episodes Cory’s age is identified as 14 and Shawn’s as 15, which is why I was wondering about the grade.

      Delete
    5. Actually, Milestones, Season 3 starts when the kids are in ninth grade. A later episode will establish Amy and Alan having their twentieth anniversary when they had their eighteenth in Season 2. So an entire year was skipped.

Or mooshed into the second half of Season 2--remember in the school election episode, Cory mentioned they were going into their ninth year of public education, which would be eighth grade.

And yes, my Canadian friend, you are the only one who likes 1961.

      Delete
    6. Actually Cryptid, I am correct. In season 1 "She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not" Eric tells Cory's class he is in 10th grade. Eric graduates high school at the end of season 3. He is still 4 years ahead of Cory and friends. They didn't start messing with the timeline until season 4. Without Eric in school with them it was easier to skip around because they didn't have another frame of reference to compare things to. They mention being in 9th grade early then in "I'm Not Gonna Spray Lettuce Any More" Cory says he is in 11th grade, then a few episodes later its back to 9th grade then they get their drivers licenses later that season, which clearly make them 16 at that point. Season 4 was all over the map in terms of their ages and grade and seems to have condensed 3 grades into 1 season. They never told us what grade Morgan was in until season 7 I believe when she was going on her first date in the 7th grade.

      Delete
    7. Whoa, what episode did they mention being in 9th grade in Season 4? That feels way younger than they're supposed to be at that point.

Personally, I just consider Season 2 to be Freshman year, Season 3 to be Sophomore year, Season 4 to be Junior year. That's how old they look and seem, and a four-year high school makes more sense to me. I ignore everything that doesn't correspond with that.

      Delete
    8. I'm inclined to agree with Christian's timeline, as it stands now at least.

Remember in "A Long Walk to Pittsburgh," Cory mentioned that when he was thirteen years old, Topanga pressed him up against his locker and kissed him. It's pretty easy to ret-con Season 1 of Boy Meets World as eighth grade, rather than sixth grade, in that regard.

  12. Check it out guys, the new top baby names of 2015 are in. Apparently, a couple of the names on this show are really popular.

Ava was the fourth most popular name for girls. "Mia" which I assume is a phonetic change of "Maya" is number five for girls. Lucas was the fourth most popular name for boys.

    1. Are you telling me Auggie isn't the most popular boy's name!? THAT CANNOT BE

    3. I'm guessing Topanga isn't anywhere near the top of the girls names. That is just not right. I wonder if anyone named their kid Farkle. If they did they should have their kid taken away from them.

I have read that in Australia there is a law that the government can veto a stupid name given to a child. If that is really true, and I'm sure they would have vetoed Topanga and Farkle.

      Delete
    4. Yeah...Farkle was supposed to be Farkle's last name. He was originally Shamus (Seamus) Farkle.
But then Michael Jacobs, the "Our Town" fanboy, got the idea to make him Minkus's son.
"Minkus" is apparently a fairly obscure Jewish surname, and I think I read that in addition to being a card-and-dice game I never bothered to learn the rules to, "Farkle" can be an EXTREMELY OBSCURE Jewish surname as well.

Topanga was named after a canyon. There are stranger ways to get a name. Better question is how did Nolongerexists Nebula Stopthewar get her name. By the time Nebula'd have been born, the USA would have long since left Vietnam.

You want to feel sorry for anyone, feel sorry for the poor little girl whose parents named her "Hashtag." No, I'm not kidding.
