Shawn has SHUT OUT Sgt. Moore with 100% of the votes against 0%.
Went with Angela and Shawn. At least one part of the Moore family gets my vote.
ReplyDeleteTruthfully I would have voted for Yogi or Ava over Rachel here. Not really a fan of hers.
As for Shawn, sadly I can't imagine Shawn not getting 100% of the vote unless someone throws a cherry bomb in a mailbox and blames it on Mr. Hunter as a gift to Sgt. Moore just so he doesn't get shut out. He was excellent but Shawn is almost as important to BMW as Cory and Feeny. And of course he got most of the good stories and was part of the best bromance on television. He is also now an important part of GMW as an actor and director. He should go far in this competition.
I can't believe Angela's middle name is Shinaynay
ReplyDeleteBeen anonymous for a while mostly because I'm way out of the target demographic. As are most of the commenters. Changing that up.
ReplyDeleteVoted for Rachel and Shawn.
I liked Rachel more than Angela. Angela had more interesting storylines but without Shawn, she had no plots. I like that when Rachel came up in the new show, it felt more natural. "We're still great friends." This shows that Rachel had more character than "love interest." Granted, Angela was Topanga's best friend...but when did we see them really do anything when the guys weren't around or involved? Angela dropped out of everyone's lives for a decade and a half.
And it's Shawn. Come on, he's an easy Final 4 pick.
I like your votes and I like your name. I would love to never talk about who's dating who ever again, but unfortunately it comes with the territory.
DeleteI know this Anonymous. I've been telling him to pick a name for ages. And I agree; shipping wars are stupid, but I can't get away. No matter what the fandom, I can't get away. I still get nightmares from my turn in the Avatar: The Last Airbender Campaign. And the Harry Potter Wars...
DeleteRachel over Angela, due in no small part to my desire never to see Angela on the show ever again. Rachel could be funny to see again--I can already hear one of the kids ask whether everyone from Texas is tall once they meet her.
Shawn over Sgt. Moore--Moore is awesome, but only as a secondary character. Shawn is Shawn. What more can I say?
Thanks, Sean. I thought you and Christian would get kicks out of it.
DeleteOh, okay, I'll bite Cryptid. Who did you ship in HP and Avatar? I did have strong feelings about both.
DeleteOuch, my hand! Christian, didn't your mother ever teach you not to bite people?
DeleteHonestly? I'm not much of a shipper--I mingle among them to find the best written stories I can find. I prefer devoted, platonic friendships to cheesy, vapid romance--and that's coming from someone who loved watching Hallmark Channel in high school.
If I had to admit it...when it came to Avatar: The Last Airbender, I was, and am, devoutly canonical in my shipping. That said, I preferred discussion and analysis that concerned the "non-existent, but wouldn't it be awesome if the writers ever bothered to notice what they had here" friendship between Toph and Zuko. I did not, and do not, ship "Toko" by any means, but in my time in the wars, I spent most of my tour keeping their small fleet safe from those maniac Zutarans. I have three scars I brag about thanks to them. And other scars I don't brag about...I lost a lot of good men in that war.
Harry Potter is much the same. I did not really ship, but I sought strong friendship stories. Having said that, I nursed a soft spot for a Remus/Lily school-age romance--which I blame entirely on that blasted scene from "Prisoner of Azkaban" when Remus reflects that Lily had been there for him at a time when nobody else was. I did not ship the Trio with anyone else--though I admit it is darn near impossible to find any /good/ one-shot stories on Fanfiction.net that don't feature romance. I spent a lot of afternoons in high school trying to find good Friendship stories featuring Harry, Hermione, or Ginny with Luna. I love Luna.
*Kicks Christian in retaliation for being bitten*
I don't watch/read Harry Potter but I too defend Toko. I don't hard core ship it but I thought the relationship, what ever it may be, had more room to be explored. That, and Mai is like my least favorite character in the whole Avatar universe.
DeleteIt was a tough choice between Angela and Rachel. I finally went with Angela, though.
DeleteTruth be told, much of my recent dislike of Angela comes mainly from her fans and not the actual character. And while I agree with what everyone is saying here; (that Angela didn't have anything outside of Shawn) she at least she had a backstory.
What did Rachel get? Bunny Baby? Please, if there was nothing to Angela save her non/relationship to Shawn than there was nothing to Rachel period. Rachel was a walking talking one note joke. A joke that could admittedly be funny at times, but not an actual character in any sense of the term.
And then Shawn over Angela's dad, who despite losing this round is honestly a better character than either Angela or Rachel.
Christian who were your Harry Potter ships? Just out of curiosity, I don't feel strongly either way
DeleteI'm answering this two years later, but I shipped Ron/Hermione hardcore. I got basically enraged at even the suggestion of Harry/Hermione and always thought the idea of Draco/Hermione was absurd and based on people's made-up ideas of Malfoy rather than who he actually was.
DeleteAs for Harry, I always liked him with Luna and legitimately thought Season 5 was suggesting they were going that route.
You just called Order of the Phoenix "season 5"
DeleteI went with Angela and Shawn.
ReplyDeleteAngela over Rachel wasn't too tough for me. Now, are either my favorite characters, hell no. Honestly, Angela could have been written so much better, and Rachel wasn't much of a character to begin with. Yet, I think Angela was the more interesting character.
Shawn over Sgt. Moore. This was really easy for me, as I suspect for many others. All due respect to the late Julius Carry.
I don't particularly like rachel or angela so I needed to base my vote on something else. So I chose Angela if only for the progressiveness that her relationship with Shawn brought to the show. At the time there really werent any positive models of interracial couples on television shows like boy meets world and the like. I believe in the power of media to influence the minds of young people and this was probably a good thing for a lot of people to see growing up.
ReplyDeleteMy respect for Boy Meets World writers for doing that only makes it all the more hurtful that Angela would accuse them of being racist for breaking up her and Shawn in the sequel. ITS THE EXACT SAME WRITERS. they weren't racist before and they aren't now. It just didn't make sense for the characters for her to still have a relationship with Shawn.
Although it has not helped their case that there have been only been three black characters in girl meets world : The bully from girl meets flaws that everyone hates, Zay who we all hate, and that random thug and his (I'm pretty sure somewhat mentally challenged) friend in that episode of girl meets farkle or friendship or whatever that episode was where riley and maya are fighting over him. But I digress.
I never thought they were racist, despite the lack of diversity in both BMW and GMW. But I do think they could've had Shawn and Angel still together. She was only going to Europe for a year. Long-Distance relationships-not uncommon. I don't however think it would've been realistic to put them back together after not seeing each other for 15 years, but that's why they shouldn't have broken up in the first place, cause there wasn't really a reason for it, IMO.
DeleteThey certainly *could* have ended up together, but Michael Jacobs have said they thought it would be a more natural ending if they didn't to show that most first loves are just that, first loves, and not who you end up with for the rest of your life. When they had Cory and Topanga as a fairly unrealistic representation of young love, they wanted to juxtapose it with what young adults would more likely actually go though themselves.
DeleteI actually like that they did this. It felt more true to life, everyone ending up with their high school sweethearts would have rung false to me. Hell, I'd have prefer Cory and Topanga not winding up together either. If it were me, I'd have had her go to Yale, have them try to make it work, and end the series with them deciding to go their separate ways.

DeleteChristian - I agree with you about Cory and Topanga experience not winding up together. I also preferred having Topanga going to Yale to see if their relationship will be able to work out or not. That would be a bit more interesting between Cory and Topanga, and it would be great to see if their relationship would be as truly strong as Cory and Shawn's or not. I mean, even Cory and Shawn separated from each other couples of times in each seasons, but it's proven that nothing could/can break their friendship apart and it's proven so much that their relationship is actually more stronger than Cory and Topanga's relationship. After everything they went through together, they became more like real brothers than their own blooded brothers.
DeleteSame goes with Cory's parents like in Season 1, in Once In Love With Amy episode, it would actually be really interesting and compelling to see how Cory would deal with his family if his parents were really split up, and if his mom really did seek out with another guy.
