  3. Man, Shawn let me down.

For those who care, Will's new show "Guardians of the Galaxy" can be seen on watchdisneyxd website now. I am usually a fan of Will's voice work, but as Star Lord he sounds exactly like Eric Matthews, I mean exactly. Watch and listen.

    1. It's worth watching just for Rocket Raccoon though.

    2. Oh the show was fun, it's just that it seemed Will mailed in his performance. His other stuff actually sounded different and I liked it more.

  4. This poll and its comment section has been one of my favorite things to read online lately. So much fun. Not a surprise Champion, at the end of it all, but no less fun! My vote is still for Wendy over all these chumps :)

    2. Tim, I have no idea whether or not you'll see this, but I too have a soft spot for Wendy--frankly, when I first saw "Sneak Attack," I was convinced she was Farkle's mother from the way he described his big breakfast.

      Delete
    3. I really would have loved that. When MJ mentionted the actress asking if she was indelible to him it struck me as a very proper, Wendyesque thing to say and I loved it. Alas, it was not to be ...

      Delete
    4. Farkle inheriting Wendy's eager clingy-ness makes a lot of sense too.

    5. She got like two votes, guys. LET WENDY GO!

    6. But seriously can someone help me understand the weird obsession a vocal minority have with this chick? She was in one mediocre episode of a mediocre season*, an episode where all the best bits have nothing to do with her. She's not played by a particularly strong actress (actually her performance is kind of flat and wooden). What IS it with her? Was she like a formative crush for some of you guys or something? I don't understand. What am I missing here? She's, like, barely a character. At least Jennifer had major parts in two episodes, one of which was great, and she had a strong personality and was played by a decent actress. I complained about the randomness of Jennifer turning out to be Farkle's mom, but compared to Wendy, Jennifer's, like, Shawn.

*Yeah, I know she's in that other episode too, but, like, barely. I can't imagine it's that episode y'all care about her from.

    7. *Holds up hands in the air*

Don't get me wrong, Christian, I'm just saying what I thought would have happened--as I recall, Farkle wasn't ret-conned from being "Shamus (Seamus) Farkle" until, I think the fourth episode was being filmed.

And then there's the statement that Farkle's mother is an excellent cook--this fits Wendy better than literally any other girl who was on the original show. Except maybe Lonnie...now that would have been hilarious.

And I fully admit that Wendy being Farkle's mother would have been good for only one joke: Minkus remarking to Cory how they each got the other's "One Who Got Away" and Riley and Farkle being aghast at the revelation.

Michael Jacobs has said repeatedly that his favorite play is "Our Town," and Wendy seems to fit those themes a bit better than Basset. That said, if Shawn reunites with the Minkus family, we'll probably get a cinnamon roll joke...hmmm, I already ate breakfast, but now I'm hungry again.

*Takes bite out of cinnamon roll*

Anyway, that's my take. This is all in fun.

      Delete
    8. I read it in high school and frankly, I found it depressing.

      Delete
    9. If any of you are interested in Our Town, you can see the movie on Amazon Prime. I did. 75 year old black and white version is the last made, but it saved me time from reading it. They also gave it a Hollywood ending.

Also didn't Wendy appear in 2 episodes? If I remember correctly she appeared in "Pairing Off" before "Breaking Up Is Really, Really Hard To Do".

But I agree with Christian, I don't get the Wendy love either.

      Delete
    10. Which is why I said this is all in fun.

And now my cinnamon roll is all gone.

      Delete
    11. Yeah, I mentioned she was technically in two episodes, but her role in Pairing Off is pretty inconsequential.

      Delete
    12. Nope. Nope. Nope. Despite the bully Christian. I'll still like whatever character I want! Ha! I enjoyed her delivery and as a child then the same age as her she was definitely a formative crush. Very pretty, loved the blonde hair and she had a unique voice or accent or whatever and it made me love her. Cory ended their episode sad he had let her slip away and I was too.

      Delete
    13. SHE DOES HAVE A UNIQUE VOICE, DOESN'T SHE? I told him the exact same thing this morning, he just doesn't get it.

    14. Enough about Wendy, fellas.

You know, I've had a thought in the back of my mind that I thought would be funny. We know that Stuart has his own private helicopter. Well, he needs a guy to pilot it, doesn't he?

Gee...I wonder whatever happened to Jeff, the football player turned single-engine airplane pilot?

Again, this is all in good fun.

    1. Glad someone mentioned the presidential. Christian took a look at the geography of the voting, and it was a MASSACRE in Shawn's favor in the electoral college. Which is interesting, since Cory would have beaten Shawn in the electoral college.

  8. This may be off-topic but since this is the newest post I thought I'd put this here. Danielle Harris (aka T.K.) just tweeted that she is meeting with the producers of GMW.

    https://twitter.com/halloweengal/status/646173874258706432

Perhaps Harley's little sister is coming to the show for a visit. Maybe Topanga will have something real to do for an episode if TK wants to rekindle her romance with fuzzy.

    1. Interesting. Interesting.

Hmmm...I have no idea how this will tie in. T.K., though a charming one-shot, really had minimal impact on the plot, seeing as Harley continued to give Cory a hard time. Maybe T.K. is getting married and tracked down Harley so that he can give her away? Awwwwwwwwwwwww,,,,,

Hmmmm....what life lesson could T.K. give? Can't be anything to do with siblings fighting--Cory and Eric have that market cornered? Siblings covering for each other? Possible, but a little contrived to involve Teresa. Though I mentioned that idea way back in the review for "Girl Meets Fish." Never mind that now--don't want to stray too far off topic.

Teresa and Harley as foils to Maya and her deadbeat dad? This one seems most likely, though if "Forgiveness" is all wrapped up, it may seem a little redundant. But then again, maybe not. "As Told By Ginger" had a deadbeat dad as a long-running plot and it was the highlight of the show.

    4. I thought about it and yeah...Christian's right. We were getting too far off-topic, so I deleted my posts.

It hasn't even been confirmed yet; the actress just met with the producers. This could be something but it could just as easily be nothing.

    5. Oh pshaw. Comment sections aren't comment sections if they have to follow some predetermined selection of answers. That's a multiple choice test. I'm done with those. That being said I thought TK was pretty hilarious and was bummed they never mentioned her again. So this would be cool. Idk if anyone else here watched Psych but she was on one episode of that too and grew up to be gorgeous!

    6. Heh... my review of Sister Theresa is pretty funny. I was a lot funnier back then... I need to bring that back.

    9. Part of the charm of your old reviews Sean was the distinctness of your merit badge system. Sure other reviewers, like IGN for example, have done some sort of checklist of pros and cons, but I don't know if I've seen any others map it out in that way.

It's certainly a contrast compared to the grading system Christian uses--not that there's anything wrong with Christian's A-F format.

In my opinion, your funniest review by far is "And Then There Was Shawn" and you abandoned the badges entirely in that one.

      Delete
    10. Tim, either my computer is acting up or you posted your comment twice.

      Delete
    11. Aw thanks Cryptid. I don't know if there was ever a single comment saying they liked the badge system, so that was always an unknown. I liked it though.

And you're right, Mister Wars, it was a pretty different situation having seen the whole series multiple times. Cards on the table, I haven't watched a single episode of GMW all the way through more than once.

      Delete
    12. It was funny, I knew I needed a scoring system, and I had just bought Pokemon Y like a few days prior, so I decided to do badges.

      Delete
    13. SINCE I'VE ALREADY GOTTEN STARTED, another thing was like, production issues. Sometimes the production value and general atmosphere led to weird things going on in the background, like that kid playing his handheld in the window sill, and the wardrobe. Girl Meets World seems to be MUCH more precise and deliberate. You can't find a hair out of place to make fun of.

      Delete
    14. You're welcome about the comment about the system. Heck, it's what I loved most about your reviews. Gave them something special, especially when you commented on the badges in the actual review. One can only read so many summaries without commentary.

Really? No episodes all the way through more than once? Not even Pluto? Or Yearbook or Semi-formal?
That's a little surprising, but then again, I recall you saying that you usually DVR the episodes and watch and pause and take notes. I wonder if that's affecting your experience.

      Delete
    15. Ooh, yes I forgot about Gameboy Kid. If he ever went over to Cory's, maybe he sat in the Bay Window That Nobody Ever Noticed.

I don't really mind the polish of Girl Meets World--funny background events aren't that common in modern sitcoms. Sure it'd be nice, but it's not something I need.

Wardrobe--you mean Shawn's handful of shirts or the way Eric would wear two or even three shirts in a clearly-not-intended-for-warmth situation?

You know, people complain about Maya's not-so-limited wardrobe not matching her family's income, but miracle of miracles, TV Tropes of all places brought up the possibility that many of Maya's clothes are actually hand-me-downs from Riley.

And what do you mean there isn't anything to make fun of? Nineteen Words: Cory's Horribly Historically Inaccurate Lessons That Would Make Mr. Feeny Give Him An F- And Put Him In Detention.

      Delete
    16. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AsAoxUCFLO0/UtSESt_6ToI/AAAAAAAAA7U/IMNRddYJyNo/s1600/collar.jpg things like that, in addition to what you said.

And yeah, Shawn looked very poor most of the time, while Maya dresses nicer than I do. It definitely interferes with the message. I like to think she, like Shawn, is too proud to accept clothes from her best friend, but she took a phone from Cory so who knows.

Making fun of Cory's bad teaching isn't really funny, it's just... observing the truth. Making fun of Lucas isn't funny either. Nothing is subtle on this show, it's all so in-your-face that you've all already thought of everything I have to say. And that's a problem, because humor requires the unexpected. It's not funny if you know what I'm gonna say.

Comparing Auggie to a mushroom is probably the closest I've gotten to humor in a while.

    17. To be fair, Maya shops at "thrift stores" while Shawn probably got his stuff from garage sales and Goodwill or hand-me-downs from the people in the trailer park.

      Delete
    18. Fair enough...complaining that Cory is a dreadful teacher isn't funny. Imagining what Mr. Feeny would say if he saw Cory's classroom--aside from the pilot, which implied that things went far further than normal--that is funny.

"Mr. Matthews, you cannot change your lessons plans all willy-nilly! And why on earth is your daughter allowed to come and go as she pleases?" (Crazy Hat)

"Mr. Matthews, your information about Pearl Harbor is far too simplistic!" (Sneak Attack)

"Stuart, if Topanga wasn't interested TWENTY-TWO YEARS ago, what on earth makes you think she'd be interested now?! And your son won't stop bowing to me!" (Maya's Mother)

"Mr. Matthews, your information on Magellan is completely inaccurate! People in the sixteenth century did not assume the world was flat! Detention!" (Cory and Topanga)

"Cory, for heaven's sake, what possessed you to have a class pet for seventh graders? And Topanga, why aren't you at work?" (Fish)

    19. Shipping Wars Are Stupid-This makes perfect sense. Also, Maya is right in a fairly nice part of New York, so she probably has access to higher end products. Wealthy kids in New York outgrow stuff too, and it's completely believable some of it would end up in thrift stores.

Cryptid456-Please make this Feenny bit a regular feature of your comments. Just one line when you comment on a new episode would be fantastic.

    20. "I like to think she, like Shawn, is too proud to accept clothes from her best friend, but she took a phone from Cory so who knows."

Actually, yeah, Maya will accept charity no problem it seems like. Shawn bought her a whole new wardrobe. Cory got her that phone. She took Farkle's mother's wedding ring. She even tried to steal some girl's locket! Maya's down to take whatever!

      Delete
    21. But then, Shawn was pretty selective about when he did or did not accept charity as well. They key seems to be that as long as it's not patronizing, he's down. "Ain't Gonna Spray Lettuce No More" seemed to imply Cory bought all his food for him at Chubbie's.

      Delete
    22. I hope she stole ALL of it. Somebody on this show needs to start breaking laws.

      Delete
    23. Nah, man. No badasses on this show. Just badbutts, to quote TV Tropes.

      Delete
    24. Careful Christian. TV Tropes is a black hole of analysis of story-telling and character archetypes. I've seen men get lost in there for days on end.

Christian, I think you mentioned in your "World of Terror" review, that it didn't make much sense for Maya, Riley and Farkle to all be in the same school district if they're living in the city. I'm inclined to agree; you could have the show be set in the suburbs and it would change virtually nothing. Considering the original pilot had that screenshot with the set of stairs and a skateboard that I'm betting was Elliot's, that might have been their initial intention.

      Delete
    25. Oh, and yeah, Cory did seem to pay for Shawn at Chubbie's. Considering they ate there frequently, and adults had no problem going there, how much money did Amy and Alan give Cory in allowance?

      Delete
    26. I can see it now Christian. It's like Breaking Bad with Cory and Maya. And instead of cooking meth they... steal clothes...

      Delete
    27. You've got the lawyer, the rich friend, Harley is the Mike, you got the kids, it's all there.

      Delete
    28. Reading that Sean...now I don't feel so weird for thinking that Stuart has spent the last fifteen years developing technology to turn himself into a superhero.

      Delete
    29. Cryptid456- I have no problem believing that Maya, Riley and Farkle are in the same school district. It's all about how and where the lines are drawn. In New York, where things can change a great deal in a decade, and people live closer together, it makes even more sense. Even in the suburbs a district might be mostly upper middle class, with some people from other economic classes as well. Think of all the John Hughes movies, where you had rich and poor going to school together. I know most of happens in those movies is fantasy, but that element of it is plausible.

      Delete
    30. There's talk that tk will be on the show but as an adult version of Riley instead of as tk. I think this would be a far more organic way to have her return to the show.

      Delete
    31. That's interesting, Good Looking Detective. And while I agree it's a more organic way to bring in the actress..I don't know. Other than knowing Michael Jacobs and the old crew, what does T.K.'s actress bring that any other mid-to-late thirties brunette actress wouldn't? Never mind, I just answered my own question.
That said, seeing as Michael Jacobs brought back Jennifer Basset of all people--I am just waiting for Shawn to run into the Minkus family and scream in terror--I wouldn't count it out that T.K. is back for...well, odds are her wedding and she wants Harley...Harvey to give her away.
Yeah, I'm a sap that way.
