Girl Meets World Reviewed - Caricatures

It's a slow day so I made a caricature of Christian and I blabbing to the commenters. I wanted to include everyone, I promise, but I couldn't think of a doodle for some of you.
Blogger is pretty restrictive with image sizes, so get a better look at it here

UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM okay guys, enough goofing around let's get those Wendy votes out into the polls please, thank you.

  1. Okay, that was funny. That was really funny. It reminds me of the novel I wrote for my College Thesis.

  2. Nice. Since most of the regulars will probably be by here - for those that do not know the writers are doing a Q&A on 8/28 from 7-8:30 PM (eastern) on Twitter. Usually lots of good stuff there.

Also Disney did their monthly press release for September giving synopsis for the upcoming episodes. http://www.disneyabcpress.com/disneychannel/shows/girl-meets-world/episodes/girl-meets-i-am-farkle/

Interesting that for I am Farkle, they list the guest cast (including Farkle's mom), but not the plot. Perhaps since it deals with autism, they do not want to shout that out. Or maybe nothing so sinister.

    1. I'm hopeful for "I Am Farkle." Autism is a very sensitive subject, and perhaps too complex for a Disney show. That said, if the crew over at Arthur can give us "When Carl Met George," then there's hope. Or at least an example of how to do an episode on the subject materially correctly if "I Am Farkle" turns out rotten. In any case, Minkus is back--Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

Lee Norris is due to return for two more episodes after "I Am Farkle" (Not the best title I agree, but the alternative was "Normal"). Given that Stuart and Shawn are due to reunite, I'll wagering the Minkuses...Minki...er, Farkle's parents may divorce. That's certainly a storyline the show could explore.

"Cory and Topanga" sounds...intriguing. Better than a clip show in the vein of "How I Met Your Mother" at any rate. Still not over that show's finale. In any case, it did remind me of the season four episode of 7th Heaven, when middle daughter Lucy resolves to commit herself to pro-active altruistic deeds, including joining Habitat For Humanity. Say what you will about how 7th Heaven was not a very good show (And it's not. Even I admit that). But Season 4-5 Lucy was active in community service and the show actually made repeated references to it. She was at her most interesting during those seasons. So Riley wondering how to make her mark on the world may be something that makes for a very good episode and develops Riley's character dramatically.

I am not exactly anticipating "Rileytown." I read some spoilers that reminded me of "Flaws." A decent-to-good first half, and then a not-so-good second half. Here, I say turn to Recess's "Gus's Last Stand" and even more so "The Ratings Game" and Fillmore's "A Dark Score Evened" for examples of how to have good episodes concerning bullying. On the plus side, even if the ending turns out not-so-good, it looks like "Rileytown" might have Maya realize her banter /can/ hurt people's feelings and allow for discussion for where to draw the line in regards to teasing.

    2. I am looking forward to Cory and Topanga. One of the writers tweets from earlier in the year was: Cory & Topanga stage direction: “Cory holds out the laundry basket. Topanga tosses in a pair of socks.” That itself makes me think we will get a thoughtful, well written episode.

I have read that the big reveal scene in Rileytown was not filmed in front of a live audience, so no one is aware who the bully turns out to be. I'm leaning towards Missy myself. I just can't see anyone from Riley's class being the bully unless its one of the kids whose name we haven't learned yet.

I'm sure that somewhere in JQA is an eighth grade class with Missy, Billy, the rebel from Friendship and that Myzel kid from the pilot.

    3. The reveal is clever enough. It allows for ambiguity, which suits the nature of cyber-bullying. It also allows Riley a reason to be withdrawn because this way she can't just tattle to her father.

But I don't know. It's not that I don't trust Jacobs--he gave us Harley, Frankie and Joey. Heck, even faux-Harley and Griff. And that rich snob who gave Shawn a hard time in "Janitor Dad," Curtis I think his name was.

I'm not sure I trust Disney. I think we may have read from the same source, my dear 1960, and well...you might have read how Riley tries to cheer herself up. It's the Internet. Anybody can make anything up. God forgive me, I hope that bit was made up.

    4. The rich jerk's name from "Janitor Dad" was, like, Crandall, I think. I remember because it was the weirdest fucking name.

    5. And yeah, I read these synopses earlier today, and Missy was also my first thought. But I'm not sure if they'd remember her, she was just in the one episode really early. I liked her though.

    1. So there's Ben Sandwich, pwfan, Unknown, Kit Cosmo, 1960, and yours truly. But for the life of me, I couldn't recognize the one of the girl with glasses and a hat.

    2. Christian is such a complainer. I've seen 20 seconds of poorly recorded footage of the guy, and he wants me to make the Mona Lisa? Please. It's a fucking doodle.

It's a wizard hat, Cryptid. There's a girl in the comments who really likes wizards.

    4. Wizard hat....wizard hat...You mean the one who dived deep into the rabbit hole about Harry Potter?

    5. Heh, you sure have picked up a conversational usage of "rabbit hole"!

Yeah, I believe that's who he means. Julie Delbel.

    6. I use the term "rabbit hole" to remind myself never to go back in there. It was scary, Christian. Really scary. It reminded me of the things I saw before...

I saw terrible things in the Shipping Wars of Harry Potter. Worse things happened during the Avatar: The Last Airbender campaigns. The rabbit hole...it reminded me of the wars.
